i knelt beside her looking into her six year old eyes...
"what are you thankful for sweetie?"
missing both of her bottom front teeth she smiled and exclaimed, "my mama."
this may not sound too surprising to you but it was for me...her mama has been in heaven for about three years.
i quickly recovered from the shock...i mean, some adults have trouble accepting the fact a loved was taken from them what they feel like is a little to early...how is a child to make sense of it?
"you mean....your thankful you know how much your mama loves you? and that you'll get to see her again in heaven?"
nodding head enthusiastically she continued to color the thanksgiving picture.
there is a lesson there, i know there is.
we have so much to be thankful for...even in the midst of fear, heartache, loss, pain, confusion...we are a blessed people! we must never forget this. He is worthy of SO MUCH more than we give Him.
oh...to have childlike faith!
happy thanksgiving, from our home to yours!
