praying hands, radio station and surgery?

one of my favorite things about homeschooling is the field trips! trooper is having an out patient surgery soon so we headed to the pre-op appointment {which was an experience by itself}. besides the fact we had to get up at 6:30 am {which is early for us} we decided to make the best of it and turn it into fun and learning!

we drove through ORU ~ Oral Roberts University.  the kids loved the praying hands.

we read the inscription that the Lord told Oral Roberts to build a university on His word and the Holy Spirit to instruct all parts of the student ~ to be a light in a dark world.  that Oral Roberts could touch a lot more people that way.  i'm paraphrasing of course but it was neat to read.  not seen in the picture is a circle of flags from different countries ~ we prayed that God's light would reach each and every country.

have you ever wondered what it's like at a radio station?  well, there is a waiting room and a desk with a receptionist.  it doesn't look much different than any other office.  until you get to their "broadcasting room"...i really don't know if that's what it's called ~ maybe i should have asked.  anyway, there are computer screens, a big lighted switchboard, phones and microphones.

heather from kxoj was very kind to give us a tour.  of course she and her radio partner kevin had us laughing...they do the morning show if you live in or around tulsa i'm sure you've heard 'em.  she is just as sweet as ever. trooper was pooped at this point and opted out of the girly shot.

we listened and giggled as kevin spoke on-air.  then the kids took turns talking into the microphones and he changed their voices with a handy dandy computer...great fun!

it was a great day...and it's only twelve noon!  i asked the kids as we were leaving in the dark this morning if we should start waking up this early all the time...the amish do after all.  i heard a resounding, "nooooooo..."

and i have to agree.

thank you kevin and heather =)

  1. How cool to be near Oral Roberts University! I hope all is well with Trooper, and you are a great homeschool mom. That is how I liked to be, let's make it fun for EVERYONE (mainly me) and be adventerous, do things, go places, all in the name of school. Yah for homeschooling! I got your message about winning, I have never won anything in my entire life! Ha! I will e-mail to you my address?
