we are THAT family part II

continued from here.
it happened like this.  saturday evening storm clouds rolled in.  i actually saw lightning hit a transformer down the road.  one minute later scout yelled, "there's a fire!"  we instantly started scrambling.  mountain man changed into his jeans and rushed outside.  i fumbled for my handy android.  after i dialed  911 it took about 4 minutes to finally talk to someone.  i was actually put on hold.  yes.  hold. {i hung up and redialed too!}
several oncoming cars turned around choosing not to go near the spreading fire...it was growing very quickly.  trooper was crying, he's not one for fires especially the unannounced kind. luckily {for us} it was across the street.
the girls and i started praying.  the ground was so dry...the trees so parched the flames were getting huge.
when mountain man arrived on the scene he said people were just standing around.  finally someone brought a garden hose and couldn't get the nozzle undone...mountain man stepped in. he had also taken a fire extinguisher.  the fire was close to a neighbor's house.  a fire break sounded like a good idea.
then...it started raining...hard.
soon fire engines could be heard.  a beautiful sound when you're in the middle of {mountain mama} drama.
mountain man headed home when everything looked controlled.  the rain was putting the fire out.
soon, our power went off...again.
i was on the phone with the power company and walked outside to get the number off the meter.  only to be greeted by two police officer's in the driveway.
the alarm for the main house was going off...they came to check things out.
we gave them the down low.  i looked down to see tropper standing outside with all of us {the rain had stopped} in his underwear.  i chuckled to myself thinking if the news crew arrived it would be the icing on the cake...my son on TV in his undies...mountain family turned hillbilly.  because as you know, we are THAT family!
then we headed to my in-law's to spend the night...again.

this is some of the damage done in a matter of minutes.  we are thanking the Lord no one got hurt and no homes were damaged.

by the way, if any of you need a little adventure in you lives feel free to visit us for a week!

  15. We are ALL that family sometime. Like when my 2nd son at age 3 accidently set the house on fire. When I dialed 911 - they put me on hold! Geesh!

  18. it has been a busy weekend! I'm glad everyone is okay and there is still room for sense of humour. I hope you find your place soon in your life's puzzle. changes are always hard. I had to leave my whole life behind in 2008 and I'm still trying to find my path again. but no matter what, you're always a wife and a mother and that is certain :) xo
